Julie Thompson, chairman, Kingsbridge and Salcombe fundraising committee, Macmillan Cancer Support, writes:

I would like to thank all the people who supported the Kingsbridge and Salcombe fundraising committee of Macmillan Cancer Support in helping us raise an amazing £12,563 last year.

Macmillan relies on voluntary donations and fundraising and we are grateful to all those who collected, donated and sponsored us and to our auditor, Ian Lockstone.

During the year we made collections at Morrisons and Tesco in Kingsbridge and street collections were made in Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Chillington, Frogmore and Torcross. Events included a fun antiques quiz, a lunch with Dr Sarah Wollaston MP, a fashion show and a Christmas coffee-and-cake event at Burton Farmhouse. We also received donations in memory of people who have died.

No one should face cancer alone, and thanks to your donations Macmillan is able to provide more practical, medical and financial support.

There are currently more than two million people living in the UK with or beyond a cancer diagnosis, and that number will rise to four million by 2030.

By raising such an amazing amount of money and increasing awareness of Macmillan, local people and visitors have all helped, and we really can’t thank them enough.
