Kingsbridge 213 for 7,

Stoke Gabriel 105 all out;

Kingsbridge (20 points) beat Stoke Gabriel (four)

by 108 runs

On a sunny day at the Butts, Kingsbridge won the toss and batted. The pitch was wet and slow, but a bit drier than the previous week.

Aided by some poor catching, Westlake (35) and Dorey (35) gave Kingsbridge the ideal early platform, putting on 65 for the first wicket in good time.

On the demise of Westlake, Carr (19) joined Dorey and the pair took the total to 112.

Three wickets fell in a relatively short space of time as the total became 136.

A recovery between De Silva and new signing Bridges (10) repaired the damage before three wickets fell in the 160s.

It was left to second-team skipper Clark, with 22 not out, to join first team skipper De Silva and they took the total to a challenging 213 for 8, De Silva finishing on 39 not out.

Stoke Gabriel, after losing an early wicket, punished the bad balls and raced to 51, looking well set.

De Silva introduced himself and immediately took a wicket, but it was Will Pike with a snorting delivery, removing the dangerous Smith for 22 with the total on 74, that was the game-changing moment.

Despite 25 from skipper Tolley, Stoke Gabriel capitulated, losing their last four wickets for one run being bowled out for 105.

De Silva with figures of 3 for 9, Peach with 2 for 19 and Carr with 2 for 16 were the main wicket takers.

Ivybridge 187 for 3,

Kingsbridge 184 all out;

Ivybridge (20 points) beat Kingsbridge (five) by seven wickets

Stand-in captain Matt Hammett won the toss and choose to bat in this derby match-up between the two Bridges.

John Hardy and Mark Edmonds opened the batting on a great track, runs were easy to come by and top batsman Hardy started where he left off last week, smashing the ball left, right and centre.

Edmonds started to let the bat do the work and started to score a few runs, until the eighth over, where he was caught on 21.

In came James Ellis, who has not played for the seconds for over a season due to first team call-ups.

He looked in great form, sweetly timing the ball, while up the other end Hardy reached his 50.

Ellis finally fell on 20 and Wayne Kovacic came and went before Aaron Chandler made 10 with a few sweet shots.

Matt Hammett came in with a quick fire 14 but did not stay with Hardy, who was now on 64.

This brought Mark Sullock in to bat with Hardy, and he did ok, knocking the ball around to keep Hardy on strike, but was dismissed on 12.

Louis Lynn, Perkin and debutant Nick Sellick fell for onerun between them as the innings collapsed, leaving frustrated opener John Hardy 78 not out and Kings 184 all out.

Yet again Kings took to the field with only 10 players as players were dropping out like flies, which is not a good sign for the season ahead.

With 184 on the board, the players were told that they had to work hard in the field and bowl well to make up for the fact they were a man short.

However, after seven overs the score was 54/0, with Lynn bowling four overs for 24.

Hammett came into the attack and bowled steadily, Edmonds improved over by over without taking a wicket, and so after nine overs Ivybridge were 61 without loss.

Sullock replaced Edmonds and claimed a maiden in his first over.

When the Ivybridge openers brought up the 100 partnership, Hammett turned to bowling spin with good results, as he took the first wicket of his two wickets, finishing up with 2/45 off nine overs. Perkin bowled two overs for 0/11.

The man-of-the-match John Hardy picked up the prize wicket of the other opener with a great catch in midwicket and bowled 1.5 overs for figures of 1/21 as Ivybridge went past Kings' 184.

Only picking up seven points in the last two games is not a great start to the season and the players will be told to pull their socks up.

Next week the seconds are at home to Tavistock for a 2pm start.

The club is already saying it is a must win game and are trying to ensure that they will have 11 players ready to take to the pitch.
