ON Wednesday, April 13 members of the Kingsbridge Walk and Talk group gathered with friends to remember one of their regular hikers, Brian Spencer.
Brian had suffered a massive heart attack a couple of weeks earlier on his way to Quayside pool, he hadn’t responded to treatment and passed away in Derriford hospital.
Kingsbridge Walk and Talk leaders arranged a walk dedicated to the memory of Brian.
Thirty walkers left Kingsbridge along Belle Cross Road, through Goveton, to the churchyard at Buckland-tout-Saints church.
Brian always paid his respects at the grave of the veteran of both world wars, Bill Stone, whenever they passed that way, and the group paused there to do the same. From there, the group made their way back to Kingsbridge across fields where sheep and lambs grazed and along lanes filled with spring flowers.
The breeze was warm, the sky was blue and the sun shone.
Back in Kingsbridge, Brian’s brother David had arranged a reception for all the walkers at the Crabshell.
The group gathered upstairs, a buffet was delivered to their tables, drinks were bought and stories told.
This made a delightful end to a perfect afternoon, one which Brian would have thoroughly enjoyed.
