SOUTH Hams Council are closing the Torcross ‘tank car park’ while they work on the damaged sea defence.
The car park will be closed from Monday, October 10, as SHDC store the sheet piles needed for the repair project. The toilets will remain open and you will still be able to visit the tank memorial and access the South West Coast Path and Slapton Ley hide.
A spokesman for SHDC said: ‘Next week the Environment Agency start their preparations to repair the damaged sea defence in Torcross. They will use Torcross’ Tank Car Park to store sheet piles for the repair project.
‘This means the car park will be partially closed from October 10, with a full closure while sheet piles are delivered and throughout construction. The earliest construction start date will be early November 2016. The repair will take about three months to complete.
‘During this time you can still visit the tank memorial and South Hams District Council’s public toilets remain open. You’ll also be able to access the South West Coast Path and Slapton Ley hide. You’ll find alternative car parking along the A379 road.
‘The Environment Agency thank you for your patience whilst they complete this important project for Torcross.’
