SOUTH West Water started work on a £1.5million flood alleviation scheme in Salcombe in November 2015.

However, some unforeseen engineering difficulties encountered in Allenhayes Road have resulted in changes to the timetable, with some road closures extended.

The project will take around eight months to complete and includes constructing nearly 2km of new surface water drains in the town and other improvements.

Work in Cliff Road, Robinson’s Row, Whitestrand car park, Fore Street, and Acland Road is now complete.

South West Water’s Project Manager Andy Young said: ’The main purpose of the project is to alleviate flooding to roads and properties and pollution to the estuary.’
