A local rotary club raised £6,000 for charity at its annual golf day.

The Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club held the event in aid of St Luke’s Hospice, Plymouth and the Peninsula Medical Foundation, with the raised funds being split equally between the two charities. The raffle alone managed to raise over £800.

The Thurlestone Hotel was the main sponsor of the annual golf day this year, which took place at Thurlestone Golf Club, while other local businesses also donated money and gifts.

All money donated by the sponsors, and a proportion of the fees paid by the players after deductions of costs, will go directly to the charities.

A spokesman for the Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club said: “The Rotary Club would not be able to make these large donations each year without the help and generosity of the people of Kingsbridge and surrounding area. We would love to be able to name everyone who helps but there are too many of you.”

Beautiful calm weather conditions helped the event’s success with the golf course in first class condition, and the winning team, Darrell and Donald Day and Alan Welch, returning with 87 ‘Stableford’ points.

The annual event will take place next year on May 24 2018.
