The fifth annual community event created in memoriam of a much loved teacher who died four-and-a-half years ago is set to happen soon.

The annual East Allington 10km and 3km Fun Runs is taking place next Sunday, May 12 in memory of late teacher, Claire Widdicombe.

The East Allington Primary School teacher was a keen runner who promoted sports through the school before she tragically died in childbirth in 2014.

The school thought it would be a great way to remember her and mark her own love of running.

Last year, more than 400 people showed up, raising in excess of £1,500 to pay their respects and more than 150 children and adults turned up to run in the 3k race alone.

The course is described by teacher Karen Partridge as “well-known for it’s challenging and hills and luscious scenery”.

The race starts and ends on the East Allington Primary School playing field where a bouncy castle and face painting will occupy the younger children and a BBQ and refreshments stand awaits the spectators and runners.

This year, there are medals for all competitors and trophies for first, second and third places for men, women and children.

Pre-registration is £10 per 10km entrant, and £4 per 3km Fun Run entrant. On-the-day fees are £12 per 10km entrant, and £5 per 3km Fun Run entrant.

Registration will start at 9.15am at the primary school, with the 3k Fun Run starting at 10am and the 10k Fun Run at 11am. The presentation of awards will be at 11.15am for the 3k winners, and 12.15pm for the 10k winners.

Entries can be booked in advance from the race website, www.eastallington10km.co.uk - register early to save time and money.

Please note that dogs are not permitted on neither the schoolgrounds nor either of the runs.
