AGE UK Devon have started running ‘ITea and Coffee’ sessions at Kingsbridge Library - helping older people to get to grips with the latest technology.

They meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, to support each other and learn all sorts of tricks - from how to use mobile phones and tablets, to using a computer and getting online.

Supporting the group are Age UK Devon volunteers Mike Matthews and Ben Unwin, along with Sylvia Griffin from Kingsbridge Rotary Club.

Ben is brilliant at troubleshooting issues with technology. He is very adept at sorting out IT equipment and advising people on how to use the internet in a safe and secure way.

Manager of the library, Maria Johnson and the staff provide a warm welcome, and computers can be used free of charge.

Trish Warren, community activities manager at Age UK Devon said: ‘It’s heartening to know that there is so much interest in IT.

‘It has helped people to stay in touch with friends and family through Skype, Facetime, email and social media.

‘Our volunteers do a terrific job, but we could help more people if there were more IT volunteers. Whatever your age, it’s a great way to get involved in your community and put your skills to good use.’

The ITea and Coffee sessions are held from 2pm until 3.30pm. The sessions are free, with donations accepted for a cup of tea or coffee.

There is no need to book – just turn up.
