UPDATED:Two suspects arrested in connection to a serious assault in the South Hams have been released from police custody.

Officers were called following reports of a disturbance outside a house in the Townstal area in Dartmouth at around 1.40am on Thursday, December 6.

Police and ambulance attended the scene and found a man in his 20s on the street in Britannia Avenue who had sustained a number of "significant stab wounds" to the chest.

He was taken to Derriford Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Two local people, a 22-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder; both have since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.At around 4am, last Friday, police made two arrests within Dartmouth in connection with the stabbing.Firearms officers were deployed plus local units with the support of police dogs to undertake a search of the area for the suspects.

Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who may have information that can assist with the investigation.
