Fears of a gas leak sparked an emergency response at a popular tea room.
The fire service was called at about 8.40am to reports of a smell of gas coming from a property on Fore Street, Totnes.
Eye witnesses reported seeing three fire engines outside Anne of Cleves tea room, initially sparking fears of a blaze in the restaurant.
However, firefighters later confirmed the call related to a hair salon above the café.
The crews used two breathing apparatus and a gas detector to locate the source, which was determined to be caused by a faulty fridge.
The fridge was removed from the property and positive pressure ventilation fans used to ventilate the property.
