Bigbury Golf Club

Having made the finals in several of our trophy and cup competitions in the last 12 months, it was great to see Lucinda Kirkham being presented with her silver division county medal by our captain Marlene Johnson, her first presentation as captain writes Rosemary Sharps.

The County Medal is awarded annually to the lady who recorded the best three net scores from nine designated rounds of golf. Following Lucinda as runner-up was our ladies’ club champion Amanda Burchell. Lucinda is now invited to represent Bigbury in the silver division of the County Medal finals, alongside Margaret Taylor, who won the bronze division. The final will be held at Downes Crediton in April. We wish them both good luck.

The sun, making a welcome return last Wednesday week, encouraged 71 gentlemen to enter the midweek stableford competition and there were some extremely good scores recorded, not least by the overall winner Paul Vaggers (13), who scored an impressive 43 points.

This left him two points ahead of the three players who all scored 41 points, leaving second and third to be decided on countback. Overall second was Neville Thomas (20), with Steve Ryder (8) in third, edging Brian Henwood (13) with his 41 points out.

When split into the two divisions, Paul remained in first place in division one, with Steve second and Brian third. Neville took first place in division two, with Michael Warren (16) second and Adam Burgess (15) third when he and Michael both scored 40 points. The twos prize pot had to be split 16 ways.
