SDFL division one

Beesands Rovers 5,

Buckland and Milber 0

Beesands had a couple of enforced changes but were keen to improve their league form.

On a typical Cellars windy afternoon, from the kick off the Bees dominated this game and were never seriously threatened.

James Hurt opened the scoring with a shot that did not have a great deal of power, but which the ‘keeper managed to let squeeze under his body for a very early lead.

Bees were dominating and after some dogged work by Morgan out wide, his cross in saw Bullen’s effort blocked before Bellamy calmly slotted it home for 2-0.

The Bees could, and should, have had more goals. A corner by Bellamy was headed upwards by Broad and Tim Bromfield’s subsequent header cleared the ‘keeper but was cleared by a defender. A further corner saw another Bromfield header cleared.

The Bees were having joy on the right side, with Harvey and Thiele working well together. Thiele was unlucky to see his shot hit the post and roll along the line before being cleared.

The half concluded with more determined work from Bellamy and a pass inside to Morgan who, despite a lunging tackle on him, dispatched the ball into the net for 3-0.

The second half saw a stream of Bees attacks coming to nothing other than one featuring a ferocious shot from Bullen that went wide.

The pressure had to tell and eventually it did when Bellamy took full advantage of the wind to strike a lovely corner that curled right into the top corner of the net for 4-0.

Things got even worse for Buckland soon after when a good clearance from Toby Harvey was well controlled by Bellamy. He played a ball forward to Morgan, who advanced and shot home for 5-0.

The Bees were rampant and rare attempts forward by the visitors were confidently defended by the back four of Garner, Browne, Bromfield and Harvey.

A tired Thiele was replaced by debutant Tom Matthews who was immediately involved, getting a good cross in that Bullen swung at but missed.

Matthews then gained a free kick when he was barged off the ball; Bullen’s free kick was deflected for a corner that he whipped in.

It was nearly deflected for an own goal before reaching Bullen, but his effort went wide.

Broad, having dominated midfield, was replaced by Danny Tucker and his early headed effort went wide. A shot from Hurt was blocked before efforts from Morgan and Bullen went wide.

The final move of the match saw Hurt pass to Bullen whose ball in produced an acrobatic effort from Tucker that bounced off the bar.

The man-of-the-match award went to Elliot Bellamy.

The next match for Bees is against Totnes and Dartington seconds away on October 31 at Foxhole Sports Ground. Kick off at 2.30pm.

All are welcome.
