SDFL division one
East Allington 2, Kingsteignton 0
WITH Allington’s pitch in good condition considering all the rain, it was decided to go on with this game, especially as the forecast was for the day to get better.
Unfortunately this didn’t happen as strong wind and rain almost the whole game made for difficult conditions.
With the wind blowing from corner to corner, Allington had it more in their advantage first half and created enough chances with their excellent football to have put this game to bed.
Josh Pascoe’s long-range, wind-assisted shot crashed back off the bar, a James Ivatts shot hit a post and Andy Davis, sliding in to meet a cross put his effort just the wrong side of the post.
The visitors’ defenders made a couple of goal line clearances as Allington couldn’t find the break through until full-back Jon Davis showed how it should be done. After a period of pressure he shot across the ‘keeper inside the far post.
With the visitors rarely threatening the Allington goal, they turned around at the break with this slender lead.
From the restart the visitors used the elements to build some attacks but found Allington’s defence in a mean mood, helped by the hard-working midfield trio of Dan Bowles, Tom Rowdon and Andy Davis, and they never really troubled ‘keeper Richard Teague.
Allington gradually got back control of the game and despite creating a number of chances they only added one more goal when Ben Robey pounced on a goalkeeper’s mistake.
This week they are home to Ashburton in the Herald Cup, 2pm kick off. The reserves have no game.
