Kingsbridge Area Netball Club (KAN) has had a hugely successful second year, both in terms of the teams and individual successes.
The club was splitting at the seams this year with 25 girls from Years 4-6 from eight different schools. The girls’ enthusiasm both during training and at matches and tournaments was wonderful to see, especially in their fantastic pink kit.
For a relatively small area, the club managed to produce three teams for the Plymouth League, the most any club had.
The teams played monthly in Plymouth with great success, securing first, second and fourth prior to Christmas and culminating in a very tough final tournament in April, with end of year league positions of second, third and fifth out of nine teams – an excellent result. A further tournament in Exeter in June saw two KAN teams take part, again with superb results, and the sevens team coming away with the fair play award, proving the club not only plays a high standard of netball but knows how to conduct themselves in a sporting manner both on and off the pitch.
This year saw several of the girls going off to the Devon Youth Trials and the coaches’ congratulations go to Gemma Cadle, Hannah Couling and Rebecca Shea, who all got into the team having proved themselves against some tough opposition.
This team then took a very commendable second place at the Devon Youth Games – a result thoroughly deserved from a great team.
Further congratulations go to Gemma Cadle and Hannah Couling, who have also been selected for the West Devon Satellite Netball Academy – the club wishes them all luck.
Due to the success of the club, it is expanding in September to have both a high five club for Years 4-6 and a full sevens club for Years 7-8. These sessions all take place on Saturday mornings at the Quayside 10.45-11.45 (high fives) and 12-1pm (full sevens).
There is a waiting list for both sections, but please contact Jules McColl on [email protected] if you would like to be put on the list.
The club would like to thank not only the girls for their commitment to KAN, but also the coaches and parents for their fantastic support over the year.
The club also wishes to thank Toad Hall Cottages for their continual sponsorship to KAN.
