A fundraising afternoon tea in aid of an ancient church saw toes tapping thanks to a visit from a local music group.

Modbury’s ’Ukes of Hazard’ ukulele band struck the right chords when they performed at the event in St John’s Church hall in Ivybridge.

The tea was organised to raise much needed funds to help maintain the town’s parish church, which is in Blachford Road.

The Ukes played a varied repertoire while everyone else enjoyed dainty finger sandwiches and a selection of cakes and scones, accompanied by pots of tea.

A church spokesman said: "It was clear to see from the singing along and toe tapping that those who attended all enjoyed themselves immensely.

"The organisers are extremely grateful to the ukulele band, who generously gave their time to entertain us all and helped to raise just over £200."
