TRAFFIC lights in Frogmore have been causing much confusion in the village, as motorists claim the signals are out of sequence.

A workforce from Bridge Civil Engineering have setup camp on the main road through the village to fix a retaining wall. Mike Reynolds, site manager from Bridge Civil Engineering explained: ‘It’s insurance work for the lady who lives next door, with the work has been sub-contracted to us from the architects. The wall was giving way and pushing out from the bottom. They put sandbags up against it a few months ago, but the wall kept moving - so it was only a matter of time before it gave way.’

A number of local residents are adamant that the lights are out of sync, leading some motorists to receive abuse at the other end of the signals. And some drivers have posted messages to the Kingsbridge Police Facebook page requesting them to be fixed.

Dawn Miller from Kingsbridge said: ‘Frogmore traffic lights are awful! You go through green and by the time you get to the other end the lights are green for the other way. Please could something be done about this?’

Maggs Griffin from Kingsbridge added: ‘I had to stop halfway down to deliver eggs and then got the finger when I carried on down as you can’t tell which way the traffic is flowing.’

However, a spokesperson for Kingsbridge Police explained that it’s an issue for Devon Highways. When asked about the lights, Mr Reynolds explained that Ameron are the company responsible for maintaining the lights: ‘Ameron inspect the lights every day to check the batteries. They also check the synchronisation of the lights. We think a lot of people are jumping the lights because of the large distance between the signals.’

Mr Reynolds added: ‘The work should be completed by mid-February. This is the only way we can do it without closing the road. We know it’s upsetting, no one wants it outside of their house.’

Mrs Brayton from At The Bakery in Frogmore said: ‘They’ve been there for a week now. The traffic lights seem to be working intermittently, but we’re just pleased the road isn’t shut like it has been in the past. Traffic is flowing and essential work has to be done.’
