THREE Kingsbridge residents have spoken out about ‘boy racers’ on the Quay in Kingsbridge, but the drivers say they are just ‘car enthusiasts’ who have ‘nowhere else to go’.

Alan Greenfield, Frances Peters and another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, all live at Kiln House next to the Quayside car park.

They say that they are unable to sleep properly due to noise from ‘revving engines’, ‘loud music’ and are ‘frightened’ that someone will be hurt.

‘For the last six months we haven’t been able to sleep, sometimes until 2.30am’, said Alan, ‘I go round the next morning and clear up all their litter, cigarette packets and McDonald’s wrappers, but never alcohol, they don’t drink there.’

The resident who declined to be named said her husband is suffering with cancer and they both have trouble sleeping with the noise and are ‘desperate’. ‘What if we were their grandparents? Would they do they same thing to their own Nan or Granddad?’ she asked.

Frances continued: ‘It’s a car park, there are children walking around and they are racing through. I have a permit to park there but I am worried about damage to my car.’

They say they have reported the noise to the police, but a police officer ‘comes down, talks to them, and then when they leave, it starts up again’.
