As another season hots up along Island Street, Salcombe, with new businesses opening their doors, bringing with them more footfall and vehicles, I am surprised that nothing appears to have been done about ­making Island Street one-way.

I am sure this would improve the experiences and safety of pedestrians and road users.

At present, anyone ap-proaching the town from two of the main car parks take their chances, as cars and delivery vans invariably have to reverse when another vehicle approa-ches from the opposite direction. What are the objections to it becoming one-way?
