The East Allington 10k and 3k Fun Runs were nothing short of successful in it’s fourth year running, raising in excess of £1500.

More than 400 people turned up on Sunday, May 13 to pay their respects to late East Allington Primary School teacher Claire Widdicombe.

The annual event serves as a remembrance to Claire, who was a keen runner. More than 150 children and parents alone ran in the 3k run. Claire’s husband, Graydon Widdicombe ran in the 10k race, and was greatly supported by his local club runners from Teignbridge Trotters.

The race started and ended on the school playing field, where a bouncy castle and face painting occupied the younger children. There was also a BBQ, cakes and hot drinks available for both spectators and runners.

Graydon presented the trophies to the race winners, all with impressive times to note. The 3k race was won by Sam Goldsmith, who completed the race in 16 minutes 56 seconds, closely followed by Ethan McDonald and Ben Goldsmith. Ethan took the trophy for being the first pupil to cross the finish line. The first female back was Hope Elliot, who finished with a time of 19.46.

The first male back in the 10k race was Kairn Stone, who completed the run in a time of 35.33, second place went to Jason Hurford, and third place to Sam Yearling. The first female back was East Allington teacher, Karen Partridge, who completed the run in a time of 44.16. Karen ran the London marathon last month in three hours and 26 minutes. Second place went to Sarah Pike, and third to Freya Porter.

The organisation of the event was praised, with competitors appreciating the extra signs and water stops to ensure the course was navigate. The course is well-known for it’s challenging hills, particularly at the end.

Competitor Julien Green expressed how the course had “turned his legs to jelly!”

The race organisers wish to thank all the people who gave up their time to support with marshalling, MCing, timing, electrical, and refreshments. They also want to thank Tesco for providing the fruit, and Arthur, for allowing parking in his field.

Teacher, Karen Partridge said: “The community spirit shone through!”
