A swimmer in his 40s from Surrey died on Monday, August 24 after getting into difficulty in the sea off Blackpool Sands near Dartmouth

The call came in at 2.40pm and a HM Coastguard helicopter reached the scene around 3.30pm.

Two Coastguard Rescue Teams and two RNLI lifeboats were also deployed.

The man was pulled from the water and treated by paramedics at the scene, but was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.

People are being reminded not to swim in choppy seas because rough surface conditions, strong winds, and hidden currents can overpower even confident swimmers.
