A family fun day in Salcombe has raised £2,851.34 for the Devon Air Ambulance.

More than 100 people attended the event at Southern Mill Caravan Park, South Sands, on Saturday, August 15. Activities and entertainment included family races, a dog show, raffle, auction, clay modelling for children, a “guess the number of sweets” competition, and Pimm’s and hot dogs.

The summer fun day supports the Devon Air Ambulance, which uses the caravan park’s play area as a landing site. Over the years, the event has raised more than £10,000 for the charity.

The park owners, the Squire family, thanked everyone who donated and helped organise the day, including the caravanners and their families who helped run the stalls and events.

A special thank you went to caravanners Sarah and Andy Barber for overseeing the event and raising just over £1,000 through the raffle.

Local businesses and individuals donated raffle prizes, including Colemans the butchers, the South Sands Hotel gifting a meal-for-two voucher with wine, The Beach Club a lunch for two, and ferry ride vouchers from South Sands Ferry. Many others donated smaller prizes.

Further funds were raised through sales of sausage baps and the Pimm’s stand. Sausages were donated by Colemans, the local butcher, buns by The Bake House, and Pimm’s by family members. Yeoward Boatyard donated an outboard engine service voucher, which was auctioned.

“We are extremely grateful for this wonderful contribution, which helps keep our two air ambulances and Critical Care Cars ready to respond to life-threatening emergencies across Devon and beyond, every day of the year.

“By serving as a landing site for our crew, the caravan park helps us reach patients in the local community as quickly as possible, ensuring they receive vital, time-critical care when every second counts.”
