In the last few moments it has been announced that Rishi Sunak is the country’s new Prime Minister.
Penny Mordaunt had dropped out of the race.
The South Hams two MPs have been strong supporters of Rishi Sunak since the last leadership battle which was won by Liz Truss.
Totnes MP Anthony Mangnall said: “Unfortunately, the past few weeks have been an enormous distraction.
“As before, I hope the new Prime Minister will be Rishi Sunak and that we will be able to deliver on the message he so well-articulated during the summer campaign.
“However, I will offer my full support to whoever is elected.
“Nothing in this job is easy, but it is an honour to do it and I remain completely committed to being a strong local voice for the good people of Totnes and South Devon.”
South West Devon MP Sir Gary Streeter said: “Now we have a chance to put the UK back on track. I will be supportinbg the man with the experience and skill to sort out public finances and lead an effective and competent government.”
