Corridors, halls and classrooms were chock full of Christmas treats at Kingsbridge Community College on Saturday for the annual St Nick’s Fair.
The fair is organised by the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association to raise funds for the school and this year they pulled out all the stops, raising over £8,000.
With stalls all along the main corridor, a huge bouncy castle, sponsored by Savills, in the dance hall, student musicians playing Christmas music in the entrance, student stalls in the main hall and the climbing wall for all to have a go at scaling the side of the school building, there was something for everyone.
This year some new stalls appeared which all proved a roaring success. First, and which filled the main corridor which the most delicious smell, was the candy floss stall. This was sourced, set up and run by Charlie Pearson a very entrepreneurial Year 8!
There was also the cake competition, sponsored by The Bake House and judged by the owner Ben Holt-Wilson, which proved extremely popular with some amazing entries with first prizes across three categories going to Freya Murgatroyd and Lucy Cohen.
Another new addition was the Hands On Craft Room, sponsored by Herrings Shoes, run by Shelley Castle, Ali McGrain and Verity McVarish where you could make all sorts of amazing decorations and whilst waiting for a go you could have your face painted or hair feathered.
Santa’s Grotto is always a sight for sore eyes at this event – and we were not to be disappointed – a little corner of Winter Wonderland – fantastically put together by Cathy Shea and Jac Wallace -both dressed up as helpful Elves!
The student stalls, overseen by Jon Eaton, were bulging with homemade cakes, jewellery, games and stocking fillers – an amazing effort by the pupils. This year Sarah Bretherick’s catering team surpassed themselves with so many tempting things to eat that it was difficult to choose.
You could start with a delicious Polish sausage or filled burrito or hot pie, follow that with a large cookie or delicious mince pie – all washed down with mulled wine. The atmosphere in the food hall was fantastic.
Jules McColl, organiser of the fair, said thanks to the PTFA team who “did a fantastic job organising the event with the help of the children, parents and staff of KCC and also to everyone that came along.
“We think we the total raised is more than £8,000, though the final figures are yet to be confirmed. Over £2,200 of this was raised by the children selling raffle tickets for the luxury hampers in advance of the event.”
The PTFA would also like to thank Burts Crisps and Clive’s Pies for their kind donations.
