South Pool’s annual Easter Fun Day has raised a record £2,250 for St Nicholas and St Cyriac church in the village.

More than 250 people turned up in glorious sunshine to enjoy a host of great spring activities, including the famous South Pool Easter duck race.

The Millbrook Inn ran a barbeque and also served paella, and the South Devon Pizza Company were also serving the hungry.

The money raised will go towards the 12th century Grade I listed St Nicholas and St Cyriac fabric fund, which exists to fund the upkeep of the church, both internally and externally.

Organisers Jonny and Petronella Griffith said: “We are so happy to receive this financial injection for the church.

“A big thanks to Charlie Baker - he was brilliant. He only arrived in the village last June, but at a meeting in February he had lots of ideas, and has been instrumental in organising the day.

“And thank you to the Parochial Church Council for their various roles.”

Charlie Baker, landlord of the Millbrook Inn said: “A big thanks to all the volunteers - this was great for the village and great for the pub.

“We need things like this in South Pool!”

The community in South Pool is now looking forward to their village fete, which will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 1.30pm in the grounds of the Old Rectory, this will also be in aid of the church fabric fund.
