SHOPPERS at Tesco, Kingsbridge, have raised more than £200 for World Horse Welfare.
Sarah Harvey, Mary Brown, Penny Hind, Pat Byrne, and Mike and Ceri Jayes collected for the charity on Monday, December 19, and raised £215.68 from the kind-hearted shoppers.
They also collected 120 signatures on the charity’s petition to Defra to legislate that CCTV is made mandatory in all UK equine slaughter houses.
World Horse Welfare is an international charity that improves the lives of horses in the UK and worldwide through education, campaigns and hands-on care of horses.
‘This is the fourth time that Tesco’s have been kind enough to offer me a collection day and I am also very grateful to Patch and Acre for the loan of their life-size model horse on each occasion’ said Ceri Jayes. ‘The children can’t believe their eyes when they see a big black horse in the foyer. Most of them give him a pat.
‘There is an on-line email petition if anyone missed us at the collection day but would like to support the latest campaign. Visit: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171221
‘I am also grateful to Selworthy Veterinary Practice in Kingsbridge which is supporting this campaign and has petition forms in its waiting room.’
