SALCOMBE Town Council are yet to receive any nominations for their ‘citizen of the year 2016’ award.
At the last full council meeting, it was agreed that the council would contact local businesses and organisations inviting nominations, as well publicise the the awards in newsagents in the town.
The council also agreed to contact previous citizens of the year, who will be written to and requested for nominations.
Last year’s citizen of the year was awarded jointly to May Crimp and Mike Wrigley.
May Crimp is president of Salcombe WI and is also a member of the Stanborough Chorus, Malborough Flower Club and a trustee of the Cornelius Fund.
Mike Wrigley is chairman of the Christmas lights committee, the bell captain at Holy Trinity Church and has also restored an old Salcombe Lifeboat.
In 2014, Salcombe’s citizen of the year was awarded to Eileen Donovan in recognition of her many years of voluntary service to Salcombe Primary School.
To nominate somebody for the 2016 award, people are asked to make contact with the town clerk Gill Claydon, by calling 01548 842282, or emailing [email protected].
Nominations will be accepted until mid-April.
