I read with interest the reassurances of South Hams District Council’s Helen Dobby that the clear and blue recycling sacks are carefully separated at the depot.

When I drive to the recycling centre at Torr Quarry, near Kingsbridge, there is a large barn on the left of the entrance road which is piled high with both blue and clear sacks, all together, many of them split with the contents spread around. Perhaps Ms Dobby hasn’t seen that.

Secondly, why does SHDC not publicise more widely the fact that many other plastic items, such as food trays, yogurt pots, margarine tubs etc, can be taken to local recycling centres. So why can these not be put into the clear sacks for doorstep collection?

Come on SHDC, pull your socks up and do some serious recycling!
