KINGSBRIDGE Town Council has voted in Robin Griffin as the new vice-chairman and deputy mayor.

Robin, who has been on the town council since 2007 and has been eyeing up the deputy position ever since he nominated Councillor Wayne Grills as Mayor.

‘I was approached by six or seven councillors who felt Wayne needed more support after the previous deputy mayor became overtaken with work issues,’ said Robin after his appointment at the full council meeting on Tuesday, February 9. He was nominated by Cllr Barrie Fishman and was voted in unanimously.

‘I nominated Wayne as Mayor and really hoped to be his deputy two years ago,’ Robin continued, ‘I love this town and its people, I work on several committees to improve provision for towns folk and lately, I have felt that Wayne, town clerk Martin Johnson and councillors need more support.

‘We have a very able and committed council with a brilliant Town Clerk and Mayor. Our team will be further enriched by the return of Graham Price and Jim Romanos.

‘As Deputy Mayor I am committed to making our town a happy, safe community where councillors, our police, our licensees and local people co-operate to maximize enjoyment in town and deal with any problems calmly and without malice.’

Robin went on to say he has an ‘especial commitment to our young people’ and that he ‘will work to make life here as much fun as possible and build links with our young people’.

Cllr Wayne Grills, Mayor of Kingsbridge, said: ‘I look forward to working with Robin for the good of Kingsbridge’.
