ON Saturday, April 23, Kingsbridge Library will be celebrating the start of a bright future for Devon Libraries, as they become a new and independent organisation.

Libraries Unlimited was established, with Devon County Council support, following extensive public consultation on the future of libraries and the new staff and community-owned social enterprise will now be running the service on its behalf. Saturday, April 23 is also World Book Night, an annual celebration of reading and books, run by the Reading Agency.

Library Supervisor Maria Johnson said: ‘I would like to invite everyone to come along to the library on Saturday morning to show their support and join in the fun. Children’s author Clare Helen Welsh will be here between 11am and 1pm for pirate, mice and biscuit stories and craft.

‘We are also able to give away some free, brand new books, as part of World Book Night, so make sure to get here early!

‘Hidden in the library somewhere will be two golden tickets, one for adults and one for children, the finders will win an instant prize and be entered into a draw for all sorts of other great prizes, including a family photo shoot, a basket of books and a Fab Lab Experience.

The Friends of Kingsbridge Library will be on hand to chat about what they do over free coffee and biscuits.’
