MALBOROUGH’S Scarecrow Trail over the May Bank Holiday weekend saw 33 scarecrows dotted around the village and raised £1,800.
Gail Allen, organiser, said: ‘With the theme Rulers and Royalty and glorious weather it was a delight to see so many visitors and locals joining in the fun.
‘212 trail leaflets were sold, although no-one was able to identify all of the characters depicted. Two of the participants managed to get 31 out of 33 answers correct with Hayley Rutherford winning a prize having been judged with the best tie-break.
‘Hayley had a winning streak over the weekend with her scarecrow of Marie Antoinette being chosen as the Trail Favourite and also Highly Commended by the judges.’
The Judges’ Favourite Scarecrow prize was won by The West End Gang for their historical collection and the Judges’ Best Scarecrow was Annie Greenwood’s Elvis. The Judges also Highly Commended The High Gang’s Cleopatra and Pat Brooks’ Genghis Khan.
The complete list of answers is available on www.malboroughvillage.org.uk and there is a link to superb pictures of the scarecrows on the website and the Malborough Village Hall Facebook page.
Gail continued: ‘Delicious food and drink served in the Hall all weekend was enjoyed by many and the team of helpers worked very hard to ensure this was a success. The plant, book and craft stalls were a great addition to the activity in the hall with youngsters enjoying Dave Crunchy Carrot’s Bouncy Castle over Sunday lunchtime too.’
The organisers would like to thank all of those who provided cakes, served refreshments, manned the various stalls and helped in so many other ways to make the event such a success. Thanks also went to the local businesses who provided prizes and donated items for the weekend.
With the final details still to come it looks as though around £1,800 profit was made and this will be shared between All Saints Church, Malborough and Malborough Village Hall and Playing Fields Association.
