Huxter and Davy Opticians which have a branch in Kingsbridge are in the midst of a year‑long charity challenge.

The team have been collectively running, walking, and cycling 10,000 kilometres over the course of the year in a bid to fundraise for their local sight loss charities.

A spokesperson said: “This number has real meaning for us—it reflects the estimated 10,000 people living with sight loss across Devon and Cornwall.

“Our goal is to raise funds and awareness for Devon in Sight and iSight Cornwall, the two charities dedicated to supporting people with low vision in our region.”

So far they have raised over £1350 and completed over 6500kms of total distance.

With three months left of the year, they have hopes of completing the challenge and fundraising even more.

As an independent optical group they are proud to serve a loyal patient community year after year.

Devon in Sight’s registered charity name is Devon County Association for the Blind and they were formed in 1925.

In 2011 they adopted the new working name.

Throughout their history they have worked to provide practical help to people who are blind or partially sighted across the county.

They have journeyed with individuals over the years as they have learned to live with acquired sight loss and we have often become friends in the process.

Much has changed since 1925.

Sight testing, diagnosis and clinical treatments for sight conditions have been transformed, but the experience of living with sight loss can still be traumatic.

The aim is to support patients, the people they live with and other professionals by providing impartial advice and support on a whole range of issues.
