EGREMONT is still moored in Salcombe, despite the Gazette reporting that she was travelling to Penzance for a refit in March.
The Egremont Trust has reported that the delays have been for good reason, with the amount needing to be spent on the former Mersey ferry being more than first envisaged.
This month, the trust received conformation that more than £500,000 is available for the refurbishment of the ship.
Phase one of the project will see Egremont travelling to Penzance for hull and superstructure stabilisation work in a dry dock. The plan is for her to leave in the second week of September, and return to Salcombe at the end of October.
Phase two of the project will see the ship’s interior refurbished over the winter, with the aim of the ship being fully operational by the spring of 2017.
A spokesperson for the Egremont Trust said: ‘We all need to stay positive and patient. There is a pressing need for more helpers, so if you have a little time, please get in touch - there is lots to do!’
One way to support the Egremont Trust is to join their monthly prize draw.
Another way is to support the club bar on Egremont, open to the Island Cruising Club and Egremont Trust supporters every other Saturday from May 21 until the end of August.
