Residents and staff at Dame Hannahs have hosted their first Special Olympics event in Ivybridge.

The event was part of the wider Special Olympics Great Britain (GB), a non-profit organisation and the largest provider of year-round sports training and athletic competition for people of all abilities.

Dame Hannahs adults trained in a wide range of sports, from bowling, balance ball, cycling, distance walking and hydrotherapy ball games to very competitive walker and wheelchair races.

Dame Hannahs Activities Coordinator Louisa Traynor said: “Everyone did absolutely brilliantly.

“It was the first time that we had held the event at Dame Hannahs, and we hope to go to one of the main venues next year.

“Congratulations to all of our amazing Special Olympics champions.”

After the competition, everyone gathered in the activity hall for the awards ceremony to receive their medals.
