Drivers have been told to seek alternative routes after a mudslide near Totnes has forced a road to close.

All approaches to Bow Bridge at Tuckenhay are impassable after the South Hams was battered by rain last night causing flooding and the mudslide.

The muddy flood is up to 18 inches deep on the Ashprington side of the bridge, with some large rocks hidden in the mud, it has been reported.

Devon Highways teams are advising motorists to find alternative routes and to drive carefully.

The flooding happened after the Met Office issued a Devon-wide yellow weather warning, with around 50mm of rain predicted to have fallen across county last night.

Tuesday will see some rain across Devon but the weather warning has now ended.

The Met Office has said it will be ’windy with strong to gale force north-westerly winds and a few showers’.
