THE fourteenth annual ‘big breakfast’ at Sparkwell village hall raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK on Sunday, March 20.

The fundraising event has been organised by Loddiswell resident Ann Brooks since 2002. She got the idea from an article she read in the Gazette, calling on people to start their own ‘big breakfast’.

At the time, Ann lived in Plympton, so organised the fundraiser to be held at Sparkwell village hall.

Over the course of the morning, Ann, with the help of her husband John and a team of 20 volunteers cooked 230 full English breakfasts, including 261 eggs.

With donations and money raised through the raffle, this year brought the total amount donated by Ann’s big breakfasts to £20,791.

Ann said: ‘I’d like to thank everyone that helped out, from setting up tables and cooking breakfasts, to washing up and packing everything away.

‘And of course, a big thank you to all those who came to support the event.’
