BATSON held a street party on the village green to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday last weekend.
Despite the dull and damp start to the day, a small group got together early to erect a large marquee with a smaller tent at one end.
Inside, a long table was ingeniously created from some real tables, wooden planks and cupboard doors.
The table was then covered with red, white and blue tablecloths while others fixed up a flagpole flying the Union flag, surrounding the whole marquee with bunting.
As soon as this was finished, the mist disappeared, the sun came out and some 40 current, former and new Batson residents arrived for the celebration, each bringing a dish of delicious ‘finger food’.
The older and newer residents got to know each other with the help of a huge bowl of Pimms, then everybody sat at the ‘ingenious table’ to enjoy food, wine, company and sunshine!
