Based in Kingsbridge, the Alvington Singers, a small, friendly chamber choir has been singing and performing a wide variety of choral music in the South Hams area for over 40 years, including regular performances in Buckfast Abbey.

​The choir was formed in 1985 as a chamber choir, based in Kingsbridge and gathering members from around the South Hams.

They enjoy singing a wide range of sacred and secular choral music, rehearsing every Wednesday at 7pm. during term time, in The Methodist Church, Kingsbridge.

They usually arrange a number of concerts locally throughout the year.

The choir are currently looking to recruit singers especially for their Tenor and Bass sections, and would love to welcome anyone who is interested to come along to a rehearsal to chat and find out more.

Their first rehearsal of the Autumn Term in on Wednesday, September 2 at 7pm in The Methodist Church, Kingsbridge, and they rehearse every Wednesday here in term-time.

The Alvington Singers’ will be singing next at a small, informal concert - ‘Sound the Trumpet’ - on Saturday, October 3 in the South Hams Christian Fellowship Chapel in Kingsbridge at 7.30pm.. Their ever-popular Christmas Concert in St. Edmund’s Church, Kingsbridge is on Wednesday, December 16 at 7.30pm and the music for this will include a performance of Chilcott’s ‘On Christmas Night’ and popular extracts from Handel’s ‘Messiah’ along with a glass or two of mulled wine to celebrate the festive season.

The choir will also be supporting ‘Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas’ again this year, and are currently raising funds for the Devon Air Ambulance charity - there will be retiring collections for this at both their concerts.
