A man accused of possessing a Samurai sword in public in a tiny South Hams village has had his case adjourned after appearing in Plymouth Crown Court.

Ian Romans, 50, from Galmpton is charged with affray, assault, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and obstructing a police officer in the execution of their duty, following an incident in the village near Kingsbridge just after half past midnight on Saturday, August 19.

Romans also faces a further charge of drink driving, which has been adjourned to Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 29.

He appeared in Plymouth Crown Court today, Thursday, August 31, but the case was adjourned by Recorder Hannah Willcocks after brief legal discussions.

Romans has been bailed, with conditions not to contact three named people, not to go to Kingsbridge, and to sleep at an address in St Budeaux, Plymouth.
