SALCOMBE RNLI have rescued six people in the last week, launching to a suspected seizure, a drifting yacht and a knee injury.
At 2am on Monday, September 5, the all-weather lifeboat ’The Baltic Exchange III’ launched to evacuate a casualty suffering a suspected seizure from a yacht, five nautical miles south-west of Salcombe. The casualty was transferred to the lifeboat so that casualty care could be administered and was brought back to be handed over to an awaiting ambulance on land.
At 1.30pm on Tuesday, August 30, the Baltic Exchange III was launched to a 38-foot yacht that was drifting five nautical miles south-east of Start Point with four people on board. The yacht was suffering electrical and mechanical failure so the lifeboat established a tow and brought it safely back to Salcombe.
At 2.54pm on Monday, August 29, the inshore lifeboat ‘Joan Bate’ was launched to evacuate a woman who had suffered a knee injury from Rickham Sands. The ambulance and Coastguard were unable to extract the woman from the beach so Joan Bate was used to recover her back to the RNLI station where she was handed over to an ambulance.
So far this year to date, the all-weather lifeboat ’The Baltic Exchange III’ has launched a total of 20 times on service and the inshore lifeboat ’Joan Bate’ has launched a total of 15 times on service.
