Kingsbridge and Totnes police officers rescue a woman who had been stuck on the floor of her home for four days.

Officers broke down the 86-year-old woman’s door on Tuesday, November 21, and found her on the floor.

Reports had come in to the police with concerns for the woman’s welfare after she missed a hair appointment. While making enquiries, officers spoke to the pub next door, who told them that she was always in at 11am on a Tuesday, but had not been in that day.

With that information, they forced entry to her property in Ashburton and found her.

PC Rich Loxton said the woman had injuries consistent with being on the floor for four days, including a graze to her chin where it had been resting on the carpet, but was otherwise “chatty”, despite not eating or drinking anything since she fell on Saturday.

She was taken to hospital via ambulance and her door has been temporarily fixed with a new lock and door frame.

PC Loxton said: “If you have an elderly or vulnerable neighbour then please keep an eye on them. A small action could save their life.”
