A man in his thirties has died after suffering a cardiac arrest at flats above a shop, despite the efforts of paramedics and police to save his life.

A police spokesman said: "At around 5.20pm on Wednesday, police attended an address in Oliver Place, off Fore Street, Kingsbridge, following a call for assistance from the ambulance service to a male who was in cardiac arrest."Police officers commenced CPR and a defibrillator, which are fitted in all Kingsbridge fleet vehicles, was used. Unfortunately, the 39-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending paramedics."Detectives and a crime scene investigator attended and investigations into the circumstances of the man's death are ongoing. A file will be prepared for HM Coroner."If anybody has any information which may assist us then please call 101 quoting log 684."Our thanks to those who assisted at the incident and our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of the man."Police said they were called at 5.15pm by the ambulance service, whose estimated time of arrival was 15 minutes.PC Richard Loxton was first on the scene and began trying to resuscitate man and used a defibrillator.Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards and pronounced the man dead at 5.30pm.Fore Street was closed for a while, after three police cars, a police van and an ambulance parked outside the flats above the clothes shop Spotted.

Police have confirmed the man died in the stairwell of the flats.Bystanders said they believed the man was Polish.
