THE First Responder, who was the first on scene when a man suffered a heart attack in Kingsbridge on Friday, is sought by his family.
The First Responder, who thanks to social media we have discovered was Jill Beavis, was the second emergency medic on scene, a minute after a paramedic in a fast response vehicle arrived.
Both Jill and the paramedic, who declined to be named, worked on the casualty for between 45 minutes to an hour before he was taken to Derriford Hosptial.
The Devon Air Ambulance helicopter landed on the slipway of the Quay car park to assist Brian Spencer, 77, who had suffered a ‘massive heart attack’, according to his brother David, outside Wills Marine on Friday morning.
Brian, of Higher Warren Road, who was an active member of the Kingsbridge Walk and Talk group, died as he reached Derriford Hospital. He had been on his way to Quayside Leisure Centre to go swimming.
David Spencer said: ‘People knock the ambulance but they were fantastic. A first responder was walking nearby and was quickly on scene, followed by an ambulance and the Devon Air Ambulance.
‘The attempts at resuscitation was almost immediate and they worked on him intensively, unfortunately he never recovered.
‘I would like to find out the First Responder’s name to say thank you to her’.
David has been passed Jill’s phone number so he can pass on his thanks to her. Thank you to everyone who spread the word online.
First Responders are all volunteers who receive no money for their time or their fuel costs - they fundraise for it all. The Devon Air Ambulance also relies on charitable donations, to donate to the Devon Air Ambulance, visit the website: www.daat.org/donate.
