Kingsbridge Police closed the A379 near South Hams Hospital last night after an elderly man suffered a medical episode.

Sgt Dave Green, Kingsbridge Police, said: "We were called just after 5pm to a car that had crashed into a bank on the hill. The driver had suffered a natural medical episode and no other vehicles were involved.

"Medical staff from the hospital were on scene very quickly and an ambulance arrived in half-an-hour to take him to Torbay Hospital. We think he is OK."

The road was reopened just before 6pm.
