Three properties suffered external heat damage after the flames from a burning car spread to a nearby caravan in Dartmouth last night.

The fire service received several reports of the car fire in the Crowther’s Hill area at 7.48pm and dispatched the town’s firefighters.

On arrival they confirmed the fire had spread and was affecting nearby properties.

Two further fire appliances were mobilised from Paignton and another from Brixham, along with the Environmental Protection Unit from Newton Abbot, which aided with water and fuel run off.

Crews got to work dousing the flames using four breathing apparatus, two main jets, one hose reel jet, one thermal imaging camera, one triple extension ladder, a gas monitor and small tools.

The car and caravan were severely damaged by the blaze and three separate private properties were effected by external heat damage.

Wales and West, Devon County Highways and the Environment Agency were informed and this incident was left in the hands of police.
