BANK Holiday Monday saw Thurlestone golfers compete in a mixed greensomes stableford with 44 entries.

Coming out on top were Alec Esplin & Sue Esplin on 43 points, from Ruth Downing & Tom Downing, Sue Ansley & Tony Paul and Janice Croke & Tony Croke all three pairs carding 40 points. There were five pairs that scored a birdie two so congratulations to them.

On Wednesday (September 2), the ladies section had the closed meeting, which is a medal competition played in the autumn with a maximum handicap index limit of 40.4.

No lady may win two prizes unless the second is the Cooper Putter. The trophies are for the best scratch scores and handicap scores in division one and two and also the Veterans’ and Venerable Veterans’ categories. This competition is for home members only.

The ladies played for nine cups and trophies, and some of the trophies were given out at the presentation afterwards by the lady captain Heather Spencer. 30 ladies competed in this year’s Closed Meeting.

On Friday, September 4, 92 seniors entered for the Seniors Open and the weather was not pleasant with grey skies and rain predicted.

The winner was Roger Wellman (15) from Burnham Beeches with 44 points from Paul Hodge (17) from Trevose with 40 points. There were 10 birdie twos scored.

Lastly, it was the time for the Canada Cup on Saturday which is another open competition and there were 124 entries.

The winners were I Taylor (22) & Peter Rojano (15) with 83 points, from Ross Sandercock (13) & Daniel Turner (11) with 77 points and then MA Young (nine) & Phil Aston (eight) with 76 points. Congratulations to all who got a birdie two, there were 27 of them!
