BIGBURY Golf Club’s annual match between past captains and past seniors captains took place at the beginning of October, with the Tractor Trophy on the line.
The format of seven pairs saw both sides digging deep into their reserves getting a number of more mature players who had felt their match days were safely behind them. The resulting mix gave a scintillating match played in glorious conditions with great sportsmanship and some outrageous gamesmanship.
Individual standouts were Dick Jemmett top scorer for the seniors and Eric Harris likewise for the captains.
The coveted Tractor was carried off this year by the Seniors and the Black Sheep Trophy, also donated by Harry Kerswell, for endeavour (that is, a poor score and a trophy which no sensible wife will allow in the house) found a home in Roger Edward’s garden shed for the winter.

A recent midweek stableford raising funds for the NSPCC saw a long-time member make a rare appearance at the top of the leaderboard.
Peter Gripaios scored 40 points to win Division Two, ahead of Mike Cairney and Rob Wilkins (38 each).
Brett Norris topped Division One (37 points), one ahead of Phil Davies who himself was one clear of Dominic Hussell.
There have also been a couple of mixed stablefords this month with more impressive scoring.
Sam Brown carded 44 points to win Division One in the first whilst Dan Burner had 40 in Division Two. Shot of the day saw Peter Warley score a hole-in-one on the 17th!
The second saw county player Amanda Burchill come to the fore, winning with an excellent 42 points, two in front of Gareth Andrews and Mark Owen. Well done to Jack Rickman who had two twos.
