SDFL division two

Rangers 1,

Salcombe Town 5

Salcombe travelled to Buckfastleigh with confidence high after a good win the previous week, although with Rangers just a couple of places behind in the table a tough game was expected.

Town started well, playing some excellent passing football on a wide pitch, and it was no surprise when they took an early lead, Ryan Colmer scoring from just inside the box.

Salcombe continued to press and scored a second after 30 minutes when Ashley Yeoman converted a Charlie Barnes cross. Further goals followed, with Yeoman scoring his second after a superb passing move started from the back by goalkeeper Ewan Grewal. Barnes ensured Salcombe went in at half time with a 4-0 lead with an excellent curling shot into the corner, despite being fouled several times in the build-up.

Buckfastleigh came out for the second half determined to salvage some pride, but with Willie Giffen and Kieran Stallard outstanding in central defence Grewal was untroubled.

Salcombe continued to create chances at the other end, but could only add one further goal when Ollie Stallard rose to head over the ‘keeper.

Buckfastleigh finally grab a consolation goal when their centre forward capitalised on a mix-up in the Town defence.

This was the end of the scoring, though, as Salcombe saw out the game to claim an excellent three points. This victory sees them go three points clear at the top of the table, although the chasing teams have games in hand.

The club would like to thank South Hams Brewery for sponsoring the match.

Salcombe are at home on Saturday to Newton United with a 2.30pm kick off at the Berry.
