Two pairs from Eagles Acrobatics in Kingsbridge claimed gold and silver medals at the South West Championships in Taunton last weekend.

After the first round of tempo routines, 19-year-old dentistry student Elliot Pound and his partner Kingsbridge Community College pupil Charlotte Budgen, 14, led the competition with fellow Eagles members Aidan Saxon and Zoe Durant in second place, just 0.15 points behind.

The second round saw Elliot and Charlotte compete first with an excellent routine with only a 0.7 penalty in total, negated by their first class artistic and technical scores.

A pair from a Yeovil gym club was given a significant penalty, leaving the field clear for Aidan and Zoe.

Their routine, which was both technically impressive and expressive, reaped just a 0.6 time fault leaving very little between the Kingsbridge pairs.

Hannah Penman, the Eagles Acrobatics head coach, said: 'It was now down to the judges and when the marks came out Eagles had won the gold and silver medals with just 0.13 splitting them – just a pointed foot difference!'

Seventeen-year-old Kingsbridge Community College student Aidan and Zoe, 10, of Thurlestone Primary School, had pipped Elliot and Charlotte for the coveted gold medal.

Hannah added: 'Both pairs were both absolutely fantastic on the floor and despite the close competition, were extremely supportive of each other.'
