Kingsbridge Town Bowling Club

On Saturday Town held their joint President's and Captain's Day. This event is held for charity and this year's beneficiary was Cancer Research UK.

President Pierre Verniquet and captain Keith Baston hosted some 20 members to an afternoon of unusual bowling and a fine tea.

The entertainment started with a spider competition, where all bowlers bowl to a central bottle at the same time, with the winner being nearest the target. The winner of this event was Jim Balsdon.

A bowls drive with a difference was then held as players were able to bowl anywhere on the green as in crown bowls.

As can be expected, bowls were flying everywhere and all the players joined in the spirit.

The eventual joint winners were Sue Allen and Steve Ellis, who both scored 29 shots over the 18 ends.

A cream tea was provided by the president and captain after 12 ends and this mouth-watering fare was organised by Liz Lee.

This was a very successful and enjoyable event and £109.50 was raised for Cancer Research.

Town entertained Plymstock on Tuesday, June 9, and their good form continued as they won on all four rinks for the third successive match.

The home side were 19 shots up at the interval and this was extended to 49 shots as Town won 95-46.

On Eric Fitch's rink, from 2-2 on end four, two scores of four and count of seven gave Town a 15-shot lead and this was decisive as the won by 18 shots.

Keith Baston's trio was 8-0 up after six ends, but this lead was pulled back to 8-7 in the next three ends, but three counts of three shots in the second half gave the hosts a 13-shot win.

John Lee's rink was tied 8-8 at 11 ends when a second-half blitz of 13 shots made the difference as Town won 22-10. Liz Lee's squad were involved in a much tighter game, but a count of three on the last end nicked it for the home side by six shots.

Details: Marion Thorne, Ray Lancaster, Eric Fitch 28-10. Julie Hadley, Jim Balsden, Keith Baston 24-11. Christine Lancaster, David Thorne, John Lee 22-10 Roy Kendall, Tim Lewis, Liz Lee 21-15.

On Monday, Town hosted Yealmpton in the South Hams Triples League.

The two rinks had contrasting fortunes as Eric Fitch's rink raced away to a 30-4 victory, while Keith Baston's struggled to achieve an 18-18 draw.

Town therefore scored five league points to Yealmpton's one.
