SDFL division one

Beesands Rovers 3,

Broadhempston United 1

Beesands gained immediate revenge for their midweek loss, with Lee Morgan opening the scoring within the first couple of minutes.

Things even better when a Dave Harvey header found Morgan again, who advanced and knocked past the 'keeper for 2-0. Within a minute Hayward received a pass wide, went down the wing and cut inside to Guy Watson, who laid it in for Danny Tucker to slide in and score for a 3-0 score line within twelve minutes.

The Bees were, unsurprisingly, playing with confidence, but they couldn't extend their lead in the first half, which ended 3-0.

The second half saw Bees score from a free kick in to reduce the deficit to 3-1, but the damage was certainly already done by the brilliant Bees.

Broadhempston United 3,

BEESANDS skipped down a place following this midweek defeat. From the start their hosts were a yard quicker to the ball and it was therefore against the run of play when Beesands took a 21st-minute lead.

Rob Niblett flicked on a Dave Harvey throw and Lee Morgan headed the ball across goal. With the 'keeper scrambling along his line in one direction, Jason Wilkes planted a firm header back into the opposite corner.

Instead of building on this, Beesands went from bad to worse and were lucky to only find themselves 2-1 behind at the break, a tap-in from close range and a penalty putting the hosts firmly in the driving seat.

The second half started in the same vein but Beesands drew level almost on the hour, another Harvey throw flicked on by Niblett and this time Morgan headed over the advancing 'keeper.

Finally the visitors came to life but shot themselves in the foot, conceding what proved to be the winner 20 minutes from time, despite having three times to clear the ball, getting caught in possession on the edge to the penalty box.

Beesands had the better of the remaining minutes forcing several corners, shots being blocked and their 'keeper denying Morgan an equaliser, sprinting off the line to smother at the strikers' feet.

Despite further pressure, Broadhempston ran out worthy winners, while Beesands were left to rue a below-par performance, especially in the first half.

The man-of-the-match award was shared between Rob Niblett and Jason Wilkes.

Beesands face Newton Abbot 66, away, tomorrow, kick-off at 2pm. All are welcome to come and support the Bees.
